Favorite New Web Sites
One of my favorite presenters at the NESA conference was Heidi Hayes. She works with schools and districts K-12 on issues and practices pertaining to: curriculum reform, instructional strategies to encourage critical thinking, and strategic planning. She started up the web site Curriculum 21 - Mapping the Global Classroom of the Future. When you get a chance, take a look and join the group. Click on the tab "Clearing House". This is a interactive listing of web 2.0 tools, sorted by topic. Amazing resources!
I was reminded today by Nicola of a great blog on books by author, James Patterson: Readkiddoread . Be sure to click on the link for "educators" at the top. There he offers book summaries, author information and lesson ideas for teachers on favorite titles.
Do you want to learn more about technology in education today? The School Library Journal web site has a link dealing with the future of technology. It is an interesting site called the Future of Education -"Charting the course of teaching and learning in a networked world".

A few more of my favorites:
- Wordle generates "word clouds" with text that you provide.
- The Visual Thesaurus is an interactive dictionary and thesaurus which creates word maps that blossom with meanings and branch to related words. You can try the site for 14 days, but then you must subscribe for a low fee. It is really interesting and has so many possibilities.
- My Wonderful World is a cool site focused on geography for kids from National Geographic.
